High School Potluck Held
The club held its 2023 High School potluck where families gathered to recognize players, coaches, and volunteers for their efforts during the past spring season. Coach Gruver and Coach Thompson reflected on the girls’ and boys’ seasons and handed out awards and letters. The girls’ season ended on a high note with the team capturing the MGLL Championship for the second straight year. The boys’ ended their season going 7-5 in the NELAX league. Both coaches thanked their senior players, and expressed optimism about next season.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!!
The high school girls team won the Midwest Girls Lacrosse League title for the second straight year. The Tigers defeated Millard West 8-7 in the hard-fought championship game. Congratulations players and coaches! What a great end to the season!

Thank you, Paul
At the High School picnic, Paul O’Connell was recognized by WDM Lacrosse for his support of the club and the growth of the game. Paul has served the club and the sport in many ways – as current HS Girls manager and board member; becoming a womens’ lacrosse official and working games the past two seasons; spearheading fundraising for the club the past year; and helping with field scheduling and equipment acquisition and storage to name just a few. He was presented a Club Appreciation Award plaque. As his daughter is a senior, he is stepping down from the board and relinguishing his managerial duties. Paul plans to continue to officiate and stay involved in the game. Thank you, Paul, for what you’ve done and will continue to do!

Fundraising Underway
Our Club is embarking on a fundraising campaign to help with rising costs and to continue to offer scholarship support to families who would struggle financially to participate in the sport. Like most others these days, the Club finds itself facing higher costs in equipment, uniforms, and field rental. This additional funding also helps the Club keep its fees at reasonable levels and helps bring the sport to youth in the West Des Moines Community that otherwise would not be able to afford to play.
Your help is needed!

WDM LAX Supports CanPlay Camp
Coaches and players from our club helped run a multi-night camp put on by the CanPlay organization which provides no-cost athletic and youth development opportunities for kids. The camp was held June 13-16 at Linnan Park in Grimes, and was the first of its kind. WDM Lax staff and players worked with 25 boys and girls from the metro on the basic skills of lacrosse. USA Lacrosse also supported the event with an equipment grant given to CanPlay. Thank you to all that participated and supported the worthy event.
